What if electronic devices could sniff out pollutants and make prompt statements about a person's health?

Our Technology

Alivion SmartSelectTM

With today's technology, electronic devices can imitate the senses of humans; they can see, hear, react to movements and even think. This has improved many areas of our lives.

However, they cannot imitate a human's sense of smell or taste. Alivion wants to change that - More than 15 years of research at ETH Zurich has gone into our technology to detect pollutants in the environment, in liquids and in the air we breathe, making people's lives safer.

Alivion has already received several international awards for its groundbreaking technology.

Fields of application

Versatile

Every year, people around the world go blind or die from methanol poisoning. The Spark M-20 is designed to detect liquids contaminated with methanol. This use case applies to classic distilleries that are subject to compliance with legal limits, but also to other industries such as healthcare, chemicals, and many more.

Fields of application

Versatile

Mobile methanol detector for distillers

Distilleries

On-site mobile methanol measurement for compliance with legal limits in alcoholic beverages.

Mobile methanol detector for NGOs

NGOs

Early detection of contaminated alcoholic beverages and hand sanitizers in third world countries.

Mobile methanol detector for the chemical industry

Chemical industry

Methanol measurement in liquids. Air quality control, e.g. in laboratories. Diagnosis of poisoning.

Mobile methanol detector for customs and the police

Customs & Police

Verification of the legally permitted methanol concentration. Methanol testing at the import of liquids to detect counterfeiting / adulteration.

Mobile methanol detector for the healthcare sector

Healthcare

We are working on the development of products and solutions to fight diseases more effectively.

Mobile methanol detector for laboratories and universities

Testimonials

What others say about us

Customers, partners and institutions around the world rely on our technology.

Distillery Fassbind is first customer of Alivion
“We are proud to be the first distillery in the world to use the Spark M-20. For us, safety and quality have been the highest priority since 1846.”
Peter Anderhub, Production Manager S. Fassbind AG
The Methanol Institute partners with Alivion
“The illegal manufacturing and distribution of contaminated alcoholic beverages can lead to injury and loss of life. This is largely preventable through proper enforcement, consumer education, and medical training. Until now, however, there was no practicable way to rapidly and affordably test the methanol content. The Spark M-20 is the first device to make this possible.”

Greg Dolan, CEO - Methanol Institute

The university of Cyprus partners with Alivion
“The future of chemical analyses in the food industry are mobile and handheld devices with advanced capabilities (selectivity, sensitivity, specificity), compatible with benchtop instruments. These will enable producers and authorities to perform checks on-site and at the point-of-care to identify contamination immediately.”
Agapios Agapiou, Assistant Professor - Department of Chemistry, University of Cyprus
