Company

From ETH research to real-world sensing systems.

Alivion is an ETH Zurich spin-off developing application-specific chemical sensing systems around its SmartSelect™ platform.

About Alivion

Who we are.

Founded in 2020 as an ETH Zurich spin-off, Alivion turns advances in chemical sensing into reliable, application-specific measurement systems. Today, our interdisciplinary team develops and integrates SmartSelect™ for industrial and health-related partners that need high-quality chemical measurements beyond the laboratory.

Mission

We make high-quality chemical analysis usable beyond the laboratory.

Vision

A world where reliable chemical measurements become part of everyday products, processes and decisions.

  1. Early breadboard gas-sensing prototype with sensor modules, tubing and a single-board computer

    Origins

    Scientific foundation at ETH Zurich

10 years of ETH Zurich research established the sensing principles behind SmartSelect™.

  2. The Alivion founding team holding the W. A. de Vigier CHF 100000 award cheque outside

    2020

    Alivion founded

An ETH Zurich spin-off created to translate advanced sensing research into real-world systems.

  3. Alivion Spark handheld device used at a copper still

    2022

    First system commercialized

Spark brought SmartSelect™ to market in a handheld system for selective methanol screening.

  4. Alivion Nutrion device used together with a smartphone app

    2025

    Expanded into breath analysis

Nutrion™ extended SmartSelect™ to guided breath-acetone monitoring and connected data.

  5. Engineer integrating a SmartSelect sensing module into laboratory equipment

    Today

    Partner-led integration

SmartSelect™ is now configured for integration into partner products, processes and workflows.
